Founded in 1867, Farmers Guest House is a calm and friendly Bed & Breakfast [B&B] established on Spring Street (Highway 20), Galena, Illinois. This B&B carries the traditional, country elegance of B&B lodging. Visitors can stay in a variety of different rooms, each decorated with a unique style.

Recently I had an opportunity to visit with the owners and take a tour of the grounds. They allowed me to take lots of pictures of the establishment. Each room looked nice and relaxing; I enjoyed touring this B&B. One of my favorite rooms was the dining room with the tables, chairs, and walls decorated with a variety clocks. Another wonderful part of the B&B is the library, which is decorated with US history from a time when Galena was in its heyday.

Farmers Guest House offers regular rooms, three large suites, and a small private cottage behind the main facility; the owners recommend the Pete & Eleanor’s Suite! There’s a wide variety of other suites too. Guest suites include King-Size beds, fireplaces, and fancy whirlpool tubs! Farmers Guest House also offers queen rooms, some of which have fireplaces. Each room has a flat screen TV with a DVD and Blueray player, central air conditioning, individual thermostats, private baths with spa amenities, and luxury bedding! Farmers Guest House also has lovely private gardens for quiet relaxation and watching the hummingbirds. While you’re visiting this Bed & Breakfast, you can stay and enjoy breakfast, bottomless cookie jars, and beverage service that lasts all day, relax in the living room, visit the library on the second floor, get some fresh air outside on the patio, visit The Littlest Gift Shop or enjoy WineTime every afternoon!

Farmers Guest House has many different specials when you stay during certain parts of the week. If you stay for just one night, sometime Sunday through Thursday, you will receive a wine tasting certificate for two at the Massbach Ridge Winery’s wine tasting room on Main Street in Downtown Galena, or at the Massbach Ridge Winery vineyard. Staying for two nights Sunday through Thursday will get you a $50.00 gift certificate to Fried Green Tomatoes or the Wild Clover on Main Spa; this special doesn’t include holidays. When you book three consecutive nights that include a Tuesday at Farmers Guest House, you can stay on Tuesday free of charge!
Farmers Guest House also hosts a Thanksgiving special; the Truly Thankful package! This special includes two nights (Wednesday and Thursday), a bottle of fall wine, and a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at 5:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day. This Thanksgiving cuisine includes roast turkey with bread stuffing, whipped potatoes, gravy, cranberry relish, sweet potatoes, and green bean casserole! Don’t forget about dessert during the Thanksgiving dinner, including pumpkin pie, cheesecake, frozen treats, and other delightful desserts. While the Farmers Guest House isn’t completely handicap accessible, it is handicap friendly; the entrance only has a few steps to get in and there’s a guest room on the main floor. Farmers Guest House is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and during the last week of January.
